Fourth of July Cupcakes

Thank you all so much for your help on deciding which cupcakes to make for the cookout I attended. You guys gave some really great ideas that I wish I had had the time to make. Although I didn't make them this time, there are some that I want to try eventually like the apple pie cupcakes! They have fruit and frosting in a lattice design on top to make it look just like a fruit pie! So cute!!!

I ended up just making my lovely buttermilk cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes and topping them with tinted buttercream. I added raspberry extract to the blue icing and strawberry extract to the red icing. I left the white icing vanilla. They were simple but oh so delicious!!!!

I also made tinted fondant stars to arrange on the cupcakes. I tinted some white fondant blue and red, rolled it out and cut different sized stars out and voila! Very easy but really cute!

Of course I also made the yummy chocolate covered pretzel sticks that were a huge hit at the party. I posted about them on Misty's blog, The Queen Of My House. Click here to see that post!!

I've been on a cupcake making frenzy lately and am excited about trying new decoration techniques too. I made some buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with a peanut butter frosting the other day and I can't wait to show y'all those!! I've got red velvet cupcakes coming up for a birthday and I'm going to try out a cute fondant monogram decoration for them. I'll keep y'all updated!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

  1. Gorgeous!!!! You did an amazing job! I keep forgetting that I need to get a bigger tip - the last batch of cupcakes I made looked weird because the tip was too small. Everytime I see yours I remember that I forgot to get it lol!

  4. Buttermilk cupcakes - yum, yum, yum! Unlike the PP, I don't want to come to your house and bake, I want to come to your house and EAT!

  5. You are so talented. Those look like something straight out of an upscale bakery. You must tell me what piping kit you use. I've also been dying to try fondant. So it's easy?

I am going to be making your Root Beer Float cupcakes today. It took me a couple of days to find the vanilla bean paste, but alas I did. I will let you know how they turn out! :)

  8. Look at you! I'm so jealous! You're like a younger Martha Stewart ;-) But seriously, anyone who uses fondant to make their cupcakes fancier is fabulous in my book! Love ya dear!

  9. I love the simplicity of those cupcakes - even though there's really nothing simple about them I'm sure! Where do you buy your raspberry and strawberry food coloring? I would love to make red velvet anything but I refuse to use the chemical red food coloring.

  15. These cupcakes look so pretty and there is nothing better than a cupcake made from scratch! The buttermilk cupcakes sound sooo good. The little fondant stars are really pretty and were such a nice touch.

You should open some sort of cupcake Etsy shop! The pretzels look awesome too.
