Oil Cleansing Method

Okay, a little background info for y'all. I have TERRIBLE skin. I have hormone problems and I'm pretty sure that is why I haven't outgrown my acne/oily/clogged pores/blackhead crap. It gets old after a while so of course I'm constantly searching for a solution. That gets old after a while too and it gets rather expensive! I've come to the conclusion that my skin is sensitive, oily and easily clogged. While I am taking hormones to balance mine out and I've been to numerous dermatologists who have prescribed numerous medications, they aren't helping a bit. As usual, I must take matters into my own hands. Have y'all heard of the Oil Cleansing Method? Sounds scary to me especially since I have oily skin...but I've read some amazing reviews on it and it actually sounds pretty great!!!!! Definitely worth a try anyway!

Basically, you cleanse your face with a mixture of Castor Oil and another oil such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil...etc. The reason it's so appealing to me is because it's natural. I always feel like by buying all of these commercial products, I am putting chemicals and unnecessary ingredients on my skin and making it worse.

Once you apply the oil, you massage your face really well and it is supposed to actually unclog your pores and you can feel the grainy bits coming out as you massage!! Then, you apply a hot cloth to your face to steam and open your pores more. Then you just wipe the oil off with the cloth and start over. You do this a couple of times or until you feel that the oil is completely removed. For a more thorough explanation, please click here and read all about it. It's VERY interesting!!!

So in conclusion, I've decided to try this oil cleansing method! I will do updates of course to let y'all know the exact process and ingredients I'm using and how it's working for me. I'm headed to the natural foods store this afternoon to pick up some oils! Wish me luck!!!

  1. I have really sucky skin too, and it's particularly annoying because when I was a teenager, my skin was actually really good! Nothing more than a pimple from time to time. Sigh. I've been using Terralina for a few months now and really like it, but my face is currently undergoing a pizza face explosion and it's so annoying!

I'll definitely be VERY interested to hear the results of your oil cleanse!

  9. Wow! Definitely let me know who this goes! I don't have problem skin or oily skin, it's usually pretty dry, but oil should be good for dry skin too, right? Hmm... definitely something I'll have to try!

  10. I'll take your word for it! I think this sounds promising. I read somewhere that you should clean your makeup brushes using olive oil and water. Maybe it does the same sort of cleansing!

  16. That sounds really interesting to me. I've always heard that olive oil is supposed to be really good for your skin, so I believe that it would work. I may try this myself at some point. Who doesn't love unclogged pores!?!

  18. Hey girly

My Croatian grandma used to tell me that they used Castor oil for oily skin and acne back when she was a young girl in the old country(and she is 95 with better skin and hair than me)...and also olive oil is apparently great for tanning hehehe

I just did a post on MAC's In the groove collection haul that hits the stores today :)) check it out when you get a chance:)

  21. I use Shu Uemura's cleansing oil at night to take off my make up (the pink bottle one for oily skin ... can't remember the exact name, but it's the one in the pink bottle). It's GREAT!!! Highly recommend. Also: I have the same problem and my doc put me on Spironolactone for my skin (which is technically a blood pressure med, but not an antibiotic like a lot of the stuff docs prescribe). Anyways, it's doing an amaaaazing job! And you can take it with The Pill! Obviously, don't know your health history but it's worth asking your doc about :) Hope this helps....

  26. The concept is that like dissolves like... the oil dissolves the oil and other greasy residue already on your face, along with the dirt possibly coated in oil residing in your pores. I would just be worried that with this method, you would not be able to get all of the oil out of your pores. I'll be interested to hear how it turns out.
