Miscellany Monday

(one) I set up my first ever Fantasy Football team this year! Though I have been a Panther's fan for years...I never really knew what was actually going on. I just loved watching the game, hanging out with friends, going to the stadium... However, I've really started learning a lot about the actual game...and I like it! FYI my fantasy team's name is The Carolina Cupcakes and I'm doing pretty darn good so far! ;)

(two) We had an awesome girl's weekend in Asheville/Cherokee last weekend!! The weather was amazing and the Lady Antebellum concert was GREAT! Here's some pictures from our trip...

(three) This weekend we went to the Blues, Brews and BBQ festival. I had some ribs and a pumpkin spice ale. It was SO good!!! The best part of the day was the pig races!!! LOL

(four) I'm thinking about joining a study with NIH. They will be studying the effect of steroids on patients with Autoimmune Premature Ovarian Failure. I'm kind of nervous about it though!! Have any of y'all done a study with NIH before??

(five) I've been pretty down lately. I've just become overwhelmed with work issues, money issues, health issues...I have been moping around and feeling sorry for myself for the last couple of weeks. This weekend I told myself that I had to get up and take charge. I cleaned the house and organized things and have really been trying to change my outlook. I feel a ton better already!! :)

(six) I've been thinking about starting running. It seems every blogger I follow runs and they love it!!! My dog and I both need to get into shape so I thought that was the perfect idea! So...anyone have any tips for starting out?? I know my first step is to get some really cute workout clothes/shoes. ;)

  2. I had started running right before I hurt my ankle and I loved it! I did Couch to 5K since I was truly a newbie runner. It was a lot of fun though, I highly reccomend it!

  3. I hope you get to feeling better!! On the topic of running I love it and hate it. I have tried falling in love with it because so many people are but I just have trouble running for n extended period of time. Good luck to you!! It is a great stress reliever!!

  4. Start running slow. If your puls is too high you can walk fast for a minute after all 5 minutes of running. The most important thing with running is to have fun! Otherwise you will stop doing it. So you need the right clothes for each weather, motivating music and a route you like(maybe without hills at the beginning).
I visited a new cupcake-store last weekend. You can watch the pictures on my blog!

  5. Getting up and doing always makes me feel better too! I'm glad it worked for you. I did the Couch Potato to 5K thing too and loved it. I finished it right before I found out I was pregnant with Sawyer and had to stop. I'm looking forward to starting up again. Good luck!

  6. Glad you enjoyed the concert. I'm such it was amazing!

I'm sorry to hear you've been down lately! I know how that feels - so many things can overwhelm you and make it difficult to feel at peace. Just give it to the Lord girl! He can provide for all your needs. I'm praying for you today! :)

  7. Looks like you had a fun time. So glad you took charge, I just did the same thing and it totally changed my outlook, too! I just read that the undomestic mama's Top Two Tuesday is what you want to accomplish this year. I just wrote down that I want to start running and fine tune my finances, so we are in the same boat there, as well. Best of luck, I'm rooting for ya!

  9. Runner's World has really good beginner training programs and also has a good shoe finder to help you find the right shoes for you :)

Good luck with your team so far! Fantasy football looks really fun, and its a good way to stay 'into' the sport.

  13. So happy to hear that you have decided to take control of your life! :). Starting a new exercise is definitely a great way to help release some of the stresses you currently have in your life.

I'm very familiar with NIH's protocol on human subject studies. The trained personnel take very extensive steps to protect subjects' information. None of the NIH data sets I've used came with subject identity information. Everything is coded. You would probably be subject #5 for instance :). Yep, strips your identity. Definitely go for it if that's what you want to do.

  15. I agree...start slow friend. Don't over do it! I have mixed feelings about running. While I love the way it makes me feel, I dread hitting the pavement some of the time. But like just about everything else, you have to make it a priority for yourself! Bret always says that I'm a much happier person (i.e he's happier) when I exercise! Happy Monday! I did a lot of cleaning out this weekend too! Feels good to get rid of some of the clutter. What's NIH?

  19. Hi,
I know a lot of women who've participated in the NIH POF study (I'm a volunteer with IPOFA - Int Premature Ovarian Failure Assoc). Email me at POF2@aol.com if you want me to connect you with someone. Also, a mission of our DC support group is to visit with women with pof while at NIH so i could help you arrange that if you're interested.
