Is perfectionism an issue for you?

It is for me!! I will stress myself out beyond belief to make sure everything is perfect. Whether it be for a party, a project, work, dinner...any old thing...it has to be PERFECT!! It adds a great deal of stress to my life and I'm sure it does for you too! Today's inspiration is from Encouraging Words Daily Devotional for Women. I recieve an email every day with inspiration and it is so wonderful. If you'd like to have them emailed to you too, click here. You'll love it!!

Sorry I'm so late with my post!! It has been crazy today. I'm searching for a new car and it's stressful. I also had a catastrophe this weekend at the beach. We decided to go fishing on the little dock behind the condo. We had a great time and caught a bunch of fish...however, the wind blew the chair over that had my iPhone sitting in it. It should be sitting nicely on the ocean floor right about now. Talk about depressing!!! I'm still not over it. LOL My lovely husband did buy me the Pandora bracelet and surprise me with it on Saturday night though!! He is too sweet and it really did surprise me because he bought it so quickly! I can't wait to start getting more charms for it!! Anyway, I hope y'all had an amazing Mother's Day this weekend and were able to spend it with your mothers and/or your children!!

"So don't be too good or too wise! Why destroy yourself? On the other hand, don't be too wicked either. Don't be a fool! Why die before your time? Pay attention to these instructions, for anyone who fears God will avoid both extremes. Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins."
- Ecclesiastes 7:16–18, 20

If perfectionism is an issue at all for you, take heed. Trying to be "too good or too wise" can cause so much stress that it can destroy you. Realize the truth of the last verse: nobody is always good. Quit trying to be perfect! Yet this is not license to be wicked. The key is fearing God—realizing you are fallible, accepting God's provision for that, and doing what you can to avoid sin, while realizing you cannot be as good as God. Fearing God means acknowledging that he alone is God (perfectly good), and we are not.

  1. When I lose my phone, I feel like someone has died. I am so connected to that thing, and never realize it until it's gone. Perfectionism is an issue for me too. I am so hard on myself, that it just stresses me out beyond belief. I am glad I'm not alone.

  3. I'm sorry about your phone. The other week at my sorority's chapter they took away our phones for the hour and a half. I was totally lost without. I know I'm attached to my blackberry and its bad.

  4. Noooo! That is tragic! I can't imagine watching helplessly as it flies into the water.

  5. I (Colin) dropped my phone in the pool last summer but it's still ticking! It's so old and archaic but I can't bring myself to spend the money on a new one.

And I am definitely a perfectionist. As I always say, it's both a blessing and a curse. Thank you for the inspiration. I need to print this out and read it every day!

  6. Urgh! I hear you on buying a new car - I am going through the exact same thing right now, I hate it.

I dropped my blackberry in the bath a little while ago and I didn't miss it at all. Is it bad that I giggled when I thought about your poor phone sinking to the bottom of the ocean? (It is, I know!)

  7. That is the coolest thing. Thanks for sharing!

I like to call myself an imperfect perfectionist, and I'm okay with that. :)

  8. Your blog is a perfect place to vent, so no worries ;)

I’m so glad that you had a nice weekend and sometimes that along with some thought and prayer melts the stress away.

Congrats on beating your personal record and coming in 5th for your age group in the 5K. That is certainly something to celebrate!

The concert sounds like it was a lot of fun and sounds similar to how SafetySuit shows are. I always like seeing live music in a smaller venue and it’s always nice when the band stays afterwards. I’m glad you had fun!

  9. THanks for sharing the encouraging words. I used to be a perfectionist. But by the end of college I started letting things go. I actually found it helpful to put myself to sleep whenever I started getting worked out about something. hehe. Good luck with the new cell. I know that can be so stressful! Hope you had a great Mother's Day weekend!

  12. Thanks so much for sharing the encouraging words! I think I push myself too hard sometimes and tend to get to be a little too hard on myself about dumb things.
